Kathmandu & Lhasa Flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa reveals one of the most magnificient views of towering peaks and sweeping landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau. During your weeklong tour of Tibet, you will be visiting the Potala Palace, former home of Dalai Lama, the holiest of holies temple of Jokhang, where pilgrims from far and wide come to postrate themselves as its many shrines. Meet the locals or do shopping in the popular Barkhor market, Tibet’s biggest bazaar and a sacred circumbulation route. Visit Norbulingka, the summer palace of Dalai Lama. Watch fisherman on the Kyi Chu River in their yak -skin coracles or visit the ancient Lukhang temple behind the Potala.
Across the Tibetan Plateau Your spectacular journey back to Kathmandu includes a guided tour of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, which is the spiritual and cultural centre of Tibet, drive to Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake- to see the frescoes of Kumbum, and Pelkor Chode Monastery. The drive offers eye-catching views of the Himalayan range, the famous Amtrak Tso (Turquoise Lake), rock cliffs, rivers, valleys, villages and the friendly nomadic tribes. Finally in Kathmandu you can reflect on your adventure and explore the bazaars and temples of this fascinating medieval city.
